The Story Behind Mixle
Mixle started with a simple habit: listening to podcasts in bed. Like a lot of people, I found that a familiar voice telling a good story was the perfect way to wind down at the end of the day. But the apps I was using weren’t built for that. Bright screens, loud ads between episodes, no way to blend in background noise, and no easy way to rewind back to where you actually fell asleep — everything about the experience felt designed for commuters, not sleepers. I tried running a separate white noise app alongside my podcast player, but juggling two apps was fiddly and unreliable — volumes clashing, one app pausing the other, no unified sleep timer.
I knew I wasn’t the only one. Plenty of people fall asleep to podcasts every night, and they all deal with the same friction. So I decided to build something better — an app designed from the ground up for listening in bed.
Built for Sleep and Relaxation
Mixle lets you mix your favourite podcasts with calming ambient sounds — rain, brown noise, birdsong, binaural beats — so you can create the perfect audio environment for winding down. Whether you’re drifting off to sleep, unwinding after a long day, or just want something calm on in the background while you decompress, Mixle is designed for those moments. No jarring transitions, no blinding UI. Just a calm, focused experience built around relaxation.
With the new Downloads feature, you can save episodes and listen offline — on a plane, in the countryside, or anywhere without a connection. Your wind-down routine goes wherever you do.
I’m also a big fan of artwork, and I wanted Mixle’s design to reflect that. The app picks up colours and cues from your podcast’s cover art, so the interface feels personal and visually connected to whatever you’re listening to. It’s a small touch, but it makes the experience feel more intentional.
SleepFade is a feature I’m especially proud of. Instead of audio cutting off abruptly when a sleep timer ends, the volume gently fades out, so you’re never jolted awake. It’s a small detail, but it makes a real difference.
A Personal Project
Mixle is an independent app, built and maintained by one person. There’s no venture capital, no growth team, no dark patterns. Just an app I wanted to exist in the world, made with care for people who share the same nightly ritual.
